The Smile of the Child is a Greek registered NGO that has been active in the field of child protection and children’s rights since 1996. It takes care of more than 130,000 at-risk children across Greece every year.
It began as the dream of 10-year old Andreas Yannopoulos, who, shortly before losing his battle with cancer, documented his vision in his journal. The Smile of the Child currently has 360 committed employees and the support of approximately 2000 active volunteers, implementing services and programs for the welfare and protection of the physical and psychological health, as well as for the safety of thousands of children in Greece.
Today, The Smile of the Child has exceeded all expectations and has proven what can be achieved when people unite forces for a common cause.
Anglicare Australia supports children and young people up to 18 years who can no longer live at home with their parents. The needs of children vary greatly from low-support needs to children with complex needs due to history of trauma and abuse.
Every child deserves a safe environment where they can grow and thrive. For some children, that means placement in foster or kinship care. We always need more people to become foster carers, and to help build a bright, healthy future for some of our community’s most vulnerable children. The number of children coming into care nationally has doubled in the past 10 years. Seven children out of every 1000 Australian children live in out-of-home care.
